Mountain Environment Degradation Theory 3 A. Dimensions Highland & Lowland: concept 4 A. The EbA concept has now been mainstreamed in Bachelors of Science (BSc) degree syllabus of the Tribhuvan University, Central Department of Environmental Science (CDES). The project has expanded into 4 more countries across its five identified mountain regions and continues to facilitate cross-country learning, replicating/scaling up nutrition-sensitive agriculture interventions, and strengthening food consumption components through awareness raising. Through the global Ecosystems-based Adaptation (EbA) in Mountains Programme, UNDP, UNEP and IUCN, with funding from the German Government (BMUB), are using sustainable management, conservation and restoration of ecosystems, as part of an overall EbA adaptation strategy, to reduce the vulnerability and enhance the resilience of select fragile mountain ecosystems and their local communities to climate change impacts. This website was an informational site for the biodiversity of the region as well as to inform and encourage people to go to the park and explore the ecosystem. Mountain ecosystem 1. Mountain ecosystems are characterized by harsh environmental conditions. Climate change, pollution, habitat and biodiversity loss, are all degrading mountain and alpine ecosystems. The selected project site, the Harpan watershed, is about 15 km² with sub-tropical to temperate climate. The Project has, therefore, carried out a comprehensive study on the siltation process of Harpan Khola and subsequently proposed construction of ecosystem-based siltation control techniques and a siltation dam in the Harpan River. 2. Result then feed into national and global … The project is providing direct technical input into how this key national policy will be implemented in practice with regards to climate change and making the case for integrating EbA measures into its delivery. The general objective of the project is to reduce in a sustainable way the accumulation of plastics in the mountain ecosystems and their subsequent transport to the sea. The project also aims to develop ecosystem-focused decision-making tools, demonstrating EbA results at the local level, building the economic case for EbA and using knowledge and learning derived from the project to influence formulation of national and local policies and strategies for adaptation. 2 Group Members 3. Our review made use of 3 databases on the world wide web (Web of Science, ScienceDirect, Web of Knowledge) to search for English-language, peer-reviewed journal articles (excluding reviews) using the term “ecosystem services” and either “mountain,” “ mountainous,” “Alps,” “Alpine,” … Mountain ecosystem, complex of living organisms in mountainous areas.. Mountain lands provide a scattered but diverse array of habitats in which a large range of plants and animals can be found. Because these economies are heavily dependent on agricultural products, and because the products cannot be grown without reliable access to … Implementing Agencies & Partnering Organizations: Government of Nepal, Department of Forests/Ministry of Forests & Soil Conservation, and Ministry of Science, Technology, United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU). You could also have students create individual habitats instead of an entire ecosystem. Especially mountain ecosystems provide a wide range of ecosystem services, which are indispensable to life, such as provision of food and clean drinking water or climate and natural hazards regulation as well as recreation and leisure, and at the same time, they are extremely responsive to global change. Overview of Project Site Ecosystem based Adaptation in Mountain Ecosystems in Nepal Implementing Partners Supported by In Nepal, the project is executed under NIM/NEX modality with Department of Forest under Ministry of Forests and Soil Conservation (MFSC) as a lead agency for implementation at the national level in … Development of methodologies and tools for EbA decision-making in mountain ecosystems sets out the information base needed for developing EbA criteria in mountain ecosystems. Similarly, there are three implementing agencies: UNEP, UNDP and IUCN. This project will consider variability in mountain ecosystems across the last 21,000 years; a period of extreme natural climate change (e.g. The project aimed to conserve biodiversity and restore the ecological system along the Weto mountain range to support the livelihoods of the people. The project is designed based on the premise that social and human adaptation is best achieved by ensuring the continued provision of ecosystem services and enhancing human capacities to address current challenges and future uncertainties. (Note the 2 tiny holes poked into the mountain … The results of the Cost-benefit analysis carried out by the Nepal project, led by UNDP, will be presented in a high-level event, organized jointly with the High-level Technical Committee, in October. Details of the evaluation objective and scope of the Terminal Evaluation of the EbA Mountain Project are available in the main evaluation report. 3. The development of tools to evaluate and disseminate the environmental impact of plastics on fluvial ecosystems. The objective of this programme is to reduce the vulnerability of Uganda to Climate change impacts through piloting Ecosystem Based Adaptation options with particular emphasis on Mountain Elgon ecosystems. The first year of the project was brought to an end with a stakeholder workshop to discuss the Table Mountain Ghost Frog Action Plan, a document that aims to galvanize research, management and awareness efforts together with all project partners to achieve a future with healthy, stable freshwater ecosystems. The project consisted of four components: (1) the development of EbA methodologies and tools for mountain ecosystems; (2) the application of these methodologies and tools at the national level; (3) the implementation of EbA pilot activities; (4) the formulation of national policies and building an 'economic case' … Application of EbA tools and methodologies at the ecosystem level; Implementation of EbA pilot initiatives at the ecosystem level; and. The Project broadcasted radio programs named ‘Panchase ko Serofero’ through Radio barahi-99.2, Radio saligram-100.6 and Syangja FM-89.6, respectively, from Kaski, Parbat and Syangja to increase local level awareness on ecosystems and EbA. It is working to specifically support 4 outcomes: In Nepal, the Project is implemented by the Department of Forests (DoF) under the Ministry of Forests and Soil Conservation (MoFSC) and is coordinated by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment (MoSTE). The proposed Guidelines incorporate EbA and provide the opportunity for integrating EbA into the national Protection Forest management plans and programmes. Panchase is designated as a protected forest and has been the focus of national, regional and local development strategies and plans, due to its high natural resource significance and its potential for tourism, especially eco-tourism. This is especially true in the context of the mountain regions of Nepal where communities continue to be significantly dependent on ecosystem services for their livelihoods. The Great Smoky Mountains are within the temperate deciduous forest biome that is very diverse. See more ideas about Ecosystems projects, School projects, Biomes project. Project background: The Panchase area, belonging to Kaski, Parbat and Syangja districts of Western Nepal, is characteristically rich in natural and socio-cultural values, and represents a mountain ecosystem that links the lowland with the high Himalayas of the Annapurna Himalaya range. The project also fostered cooperation of highland communities and municipalities with lowland groups that depend on mountain water for their agriculture-dependent economies. A project funded by the UK ESPA programme (grant number NE-K010239-1). Local Mountain Ecosystem (Bangladesh) In Bangladesh all hills are fold mountains Chittagong Hill Tracks(CHT)-They are divided into three districts: Khagrachari District, Rangamati Hill District, and Bandarban District. Similarly, to reduce the research gap, EbA has provided research grants to the students of Tribhuvan University to undertake research work in the EbA site to investigate the effectiveness of EbA options. The new Forest Policy (2015) has climate change as one of seven thematic areas and includes EbA as one of the approaches put forward for adaptation. My project is all about ecosystems. Biotic Factors Biotic factors are living things such as plants and animals that interact with each other in their environments. Ecosystem-A community of organisms interacting with their … Mountain ecosystem services: a review. Additionally, the Project has supported nursery establishment in the region to provide easy access to seedlings species for plantations by the locals.
