A SECURITY advisory group wants to see new laws drawn up to punish cyber perverts, fraudsters and pirates, after their research revealed the Kingdom is awash with them.

Naif Arab Academy for Security Sciences (NAASS) has uncovered that net surfers in the Kingdom are clicking on to porn, hacking into government sites committing credit card scams and pirating software on a regular basis.

And now the group wants to see new laws that will punish these perverts and fraudsters.

Naif Arab Academy recommends creating new rules to deal with such Internet crimes and illegal practices and to minimize the bad effects and deter others from such practices.

A special authority should also be formed to properly deal with such cases, said Col. Muhammad Abdullah Al-Minshawi, of the NAASS, told the Saudi Gazette.

There is an estimated 1 million Internet users online at present in Saudi Arabia, and with that figure set to grow, Minshawi feels it is essential that young people in particular are made aware of the dangers that lurk beyond the click of a mouse.

The education of the youngsters, both male and female should include raising awareness about the security dangers on the Internet while enticing them towards the clean and peaceful life recommended by Islam, he said.

The Naif report has concluded that the nation s Internet abusers fall into five distinct categories.

The firts are the perverts, who search for pornography, subscribe to mailing lists of a sexual nature and construct sexual websites.

These slimy characters are believed to be using a proxy that allows them to visit blocked websites as well as special software that ensures they can work anonymously.

The second category are the hackers, their crimes include destroying or damaging government and commercial websites.

These cyber-crooks also often hack their way into people s personal e-mail accounts to send viruses and Trojans a type of giant virus.

These petty criminals will lift the numbers of people s credit cards and then abuse them.

These guys, according to Minshawi, are also known to visit websites about organized crime, illegal drugs and money laundering, with some even becoming members of these dark sites.

The fourth Internet abuser are those creating allegiances with ideologies and groups that are in opposition to the Saudi way of life.

These people are known to have established politically opposing websites, they are also known to have subscribed to similar sites.

And finally there are the cyber pirates, who sail the web copying soft ware, music, films and other such media illegally.

Minshawi said the most frequent Internet crimes committed in Saudi Society were hacking, while the least frequent cyber crime was viewing pornography.
